Why I Pay Taxes
Submitted by momoaizo on Wed, 04/15/2009 - 7:02pmWhen I pay my taxes, I don't usually say thanks to the tax collector, but maybe I should. I live in the most amazing country in the world, where a public education is provided for all. Where firemen come when a house or building are burning or maybe my pootie is caught in a tree. Where the police will protect and the court will serve justice for me. Where brave men and women put their lives on the line to defend and protect me. I know I can count on all of this because of my taxes.

House Majority Leader Hugh Holliman looking to shaft state workers.
Submitted by Robert P. on Wed, 02/11/2009 - 1:12pmI just read this over at Isaac Hunter's Tavern, the blog of local NPR reporter Laura Leslie, and was simply astounded. The state health care plan is in a major shortfall, as discussed elsewhere. So, what should we do to fix the problem? Adam Searing and Adam Linker think we should look at the administrator of the health care plan, of course we aren't allowed to look at them because the details are CONFIDENTIAL.

Valuing Hard Work
Submitted by Ed Ridpath on Sun, 03/30/2008 - 9:58amIn my “day job”, I am a professional working at the business and technical interface of a large company. I see the business needs to balance investments in equipment with investments in people. However, our current laws too often value capital over labor. To maintain our shared prosperity and the basics of the American dream, we must restore the balance of valuing hard work over wealth.
