Submitted by ironboltbruce on Sun, 02/12/2012 - 1:19pm
Southern Oregon Conservatives and Liberals Join to Protest NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2012)
EVENT DATE: Monday, 13 February 2012, Noon-1pm PST
PLACE: Vogel Plaza, Central Ave & Main St, Medford OR
MEDFORD, OREGON - On Monday 13 February 2012 at Noon in Vogel Plaza there will be a demonstration against the passing of the NDAA, including Wake Up America Southern Oregon, and Occupy Coalition of Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass, as well as concerned individuals across the political spectrum.
The indefinite detention clauses (sections 1021 and 1022) within this year's National Defense Authorization Act (signed into law 31 December 2011) are a direct attack upon the civil rights of all Americans, and represent another step taken toward eroding the freedoms which lay at the foundation of our society.

Be very afraid
Submitted by James on Sat, 02/04/2012 - 10:50amIn case you thought North Carolina had a corner on Tea Party ignorance, think again.
Across the country, activists with ties to the Tea Party are railing against all sorts of local and state efforts to control sprawl and conserve energy. They brand government action for things like expanding public transportation routes and preserving open space as part of a United Nations-led conspiracy to deny property rights and herd citizens toward cities.
A United Nations-led conspiracy? Are they talking about the same United Nations that can't even get the votes to combat state-sponsored terrorism in Russia or starvation in Africa?

What tonight's victory in Wake means:
Submitted by KatyMunger on Tue, 11/08/2011 - 8:37pmAm sitting here deeply relieved (and getting ready to have a celebratory drink) but I feel the need to connect with my comrades-in-arms here on Blue NC: in Wake County tonight, a moderate candidate just beat the GOP-anointed Tea Party candidate for school board by around 4% in a district pretty much evenly split along partisan lines. This despite the GOP throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars, mailer after mailer with the worst kind of rhetoric, having Pat McCrory and the local sheriff make calls on the Tea Party candidate's behalf and relentless calling of their base and Unaffiliateds. They threw everything they had at this race -- and they lost. They lost because the other side canvassed and knocked on doors and matched them message for message and never let up the pressure.

Your turn to turn the tables on the Tea Party:
Submitted by KatyMunger on Wed, 11/02/2011 - 5:23pmIf you've grown weary of the Tea Party's constant harassment of the immigrant community in our state, now's your chance to give it right back to them. Wake School Board candidate and Tea Party favorite Heather Losurdo has been caught fudging her resume and now she's stonewalling answering questions about it. Join us in demanding that she show us her papers!

On Common Ambitions, Or, Occupy Wall Street Likes Capitalism – Sort Of
Submitted by fake consultant on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 4:06amWell I’m finally back here at work after another recent series of personal adventures; in the middle of all the fun I’ve been finding time to get down to my local “Occupy” event, and for those of you who have not been keeping up I thought we’d take a moment today to compare a bit of Fox-driven perception to the reality I’ve been seeing.
What I’ve been told to expect, at least in certain quarters of the public space, are dirty filthy hippies with no jobs or ambitions hoping to destroy America while having deviant public couplings fueled by the free distribution of dangerous psychotropic drugs.
Sadly, I’ve found that there’s not really much truth in that description, even as tiny bits of it do ring true; but with a manifesto in hand and a few conversations under my belt we’ll see what we can do to create a picture that will surprise a lot of the 99% who already support Occupy Wall Street, even if they don’t know it yet.

Anti-gay offensive continues
Submitted by gregflynn on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 6:50pmFull video (27 minutes) via Barry Smith of M2M Politics of the press conference today at the NC General Assembly where Republican Representatives Dale Folwell, Speaker Pro-Tem, and a posse of religiots, continue the introduction of a state constitutional amendment to ban something that is already banned in North Carolina: gay marriage.
This press conference had many low points. Johnny Hunter's anatomy lesson with locks and keys begins at 05:20. The full text of Barry Smith's M2M Politics report is posted as: Black ministers back gay marriage ban

Folwell, Stam anti-gay offensive begins
Submitted by gregflynn on Wed, 08/31/2011 - 8:29amFull video (31 minutes) of the press conference yesterday at the NC General Assembly where Republican Representatives Dale Folwell, Speaker Pro-Tem, and Paul "Skip" Stam, Majority Leader, announced the upcoming introduction of a state constitutional amendment to ban something that is already banned in North Carolina: gay marriage. Meanwhile President Barack Obama declared federal disasters in seven NC counties as Hurricane Irene destroyed more than 1,000 homes, decimated NC Highway 12 and croplands were flooded, with initial damage estimates of over $70 $190 $400 million. Glad to know they've got their priorities straight.

The two hats of Myers Park Pat
Submitted by scharrison on Wed, 08/24/2011 - 11:39amStraddling the fence of political ideology:
the right wing of his party seems to have real problems with McCrory. No one knows whether he could actually move enough to the right to lasso support from hard-line conservatives. If former Charlotte City Councilman, and longtime local conservative leader, Don Reid had his way, someone would challenge McCrory from the right in the primary.
But neither Don Reid nor the Don't-Tread-On-Me flag wavers have the money or the guts to challenge the corporate puppetmasters who manage the purse strings:

Hitler Holds News Conference, Blames Balanced Budget Amendment For U.S. Defeat
Submitted by fake consultant on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 7:17pm(FNS - Washington, New Germany, April 17, 1947) America’s new Führer, Adolf Hitler, announced today that his official War History would in fact acknowledge that one of the biggest contributing factors to the defeat of the Allies was the insistence of the former United States of America on sticking to its Balanced Budget Amendment, which left them unable to fund the wartime conversion of the US economy for the benefit of the Alliance.
“All those ideas Mr. Roosevelt spoke of”, said Hitler, “Lend-Lease, modular shipbuilding, War Bonds, secret weapons…in the end, all of them were just words, since the Americans’ Congress was never willing to allow the country to fully fund its war effort.”
