Progress NC and a number of anti-fracking activists will be at the Thom Tillis Town Hall in Pittsboro tonight, Monday December 12th, starting at 5 PM, Central Carolina Community College. Progress NC will be there with its Pink Slips Truth Tour display and to support the anti-fracking crowd.

Tillis keeps his town hall schedule very close to his chest, releasing it only to his followers. We want to see ALL the people of NC at these town halls, asking tough questions and challenging him on his many misrepresentations of what's going on in Raleigh. If you can join us tonight in Pittsboro, please do. There is also a town hall in High Point on Wednesday. Will post details later today.

We are coming down to the home stretch on healthcare, and we have seen the results of the first couple of rounds of crazy that have been sent forth in an effort to stop the process.

In addition to the Town Halls, opponents are flooding the email inboxes of America’s “low information” voters with no end of lies. Those emails are getting passed around and around and around, and by now some of them have probably appeared in your inbox.

But it’s summer...and who has time to respond to this stuff?

Well, guess what, Gentle Reader: I’ve already done the hard work for you.

Today’s story is an email response that you can send right back to your “inbox friends”. It’s a reminder of some of the frustrations that we all share in this country and some explanations of what’s being proposed...and a few words about socialism, to boot.

So get out there and copy and paste and forward and reply, and let’s see if we can’t fight the madness, one email at a time.

We’ve all been hearing the “Town Hall Meeting” stories the past few days, and the images presented have been of gatherings where you might see some current or former official “death panel” for the benefit of the crowd, where the few people who shout the loudest bully the rest into silence, and where threats of physical intimidation are part of the debate.

I attended one of these meetings, and based on what I saw I’m here to tell you that it is possible to hold an event that features none of the images previously described.

Instead, what I say was an event where people asked their questions, the Congressman answered—and from time to time the angry members of the audience got their shout on, too...but not in a way that was able to ever take control of the venue.

There were helpful lessons that can be applied by others who want to have these meetings, and today’s conversation examines what can be done to make them work for you, too.

"WASHINGTON – AARP Chief Operating Officer Tom Nelson issued this statement following remarks by the President at a townhall event in New Hampshire on health care reform.

“AARP has been working with Democrats and Republicans to fix our broken health care system.

“While the President was correct that AARP will not endorse a health care reform bill that would reduce Medicare benefits, indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate."

She will tour HealthServe Community Health Center in Greensboro, NC (1002 South Eugene Street) on Wednesday, August 12. She will hold a “media availability” at 12:30pm at the front entrance. I guess that’s a news conference….

I did a little research this morning and found out that rom what I see, Patrick mcHenry is the only NC Congressman holding town hall meetings during the recess.

President Obama is scheduled to attend a "Health Care Event" in Raleigh on Wednesday, 7/29/9. I am really hoping that it is an open public event. I would love to hear him speak in person again. If anyone hears any information on this then please let me know. I will update when I have more information as well.

I just received the Press Release regarding a Health Reform Town Hall for citizens of Franklin, Granville, Vance, and Warren Counties that has been scheduled for 7/23/09. I have included the exact text of the Press Release below for everyone to see. I am absolutely thrilled that we will be having this Health Reform Town Hall in my area and hope to see as many people there as possible. Please remember that the only way we will get a Health Reform package that really corrects the problems with our current health care system and that covers everyone is to have as many voices as possible sharing their stories and voicing their opinions.

This isn't exactly North Carolina news-related, but since I am a Tar Heel and BlueNC-er, I thought I'd let you all know about my appearance last night on CNN's Blog Buzz segment hosted by Tony Harris. The format pairs a progressive and conservative blogger to discuss the newsworthy political stories of the week.

I've done radio before, but not TV. I did it via satellite, driving over to very cold studio in Raleigh. I couldn't see Harris or my foil on the Right, Amanda Carpenter of TownHall.com. I had to deal with a very trebly, almost painful earpiece, but it was still fun. We discussed the Des Moines Register endorsements -- Hillary Clinton and John McCain, as well as the Boston Globe nods to Obama and McCain.
