Dole attacks Freedom of Religion and does not attend church often

Under the Dome is reporting that Elizabeth Dole is criticizing Kay Hagan for receiving support from "anti-religion" groups.

Republican U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole is attacking Democratic challenger Kay Hagan for raising money from “anti-religion activists” at an upcoming event in Boston.

Hagan is appearing at a fundraiser by two people who do not follow the tenets of Christianity, a clear attack on our Constitutionally-derived rights to Freedom of Religion.

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

Wait, Elizabeth Dole is worth how much?

Okay, there has been talk for some time about how Elizabeth Dole is out of touch with North Carolina. There is a joke I heard around town that she hasn't visited the state since her fellow North Carolinian James K. Polk was President, she sends staff members to OLF forums that were advertised as "ask the Senator" events, and she had to shoot a commercial showing her standing in front of town signs to show she had been here - at least for that week.

But, out of touch is one thing, stinking rich and out of touch is another. Elizabeth Dole's biography is murky, but there is no mention of her having a lot of family money and I remember seeing her "home", it looked like a normal working class house, so I assume she doesn't have family money. She is married to a WWII veteran and long-time Senator, and Senator's don't make much dough in the Senate. She has been a student or government employee outside North Carolina for almost 50 years, neither of which pay very well.

So, how did she get so stinking rich?

Is Anti-Dole Ad Accurate? The Dome Weighs In.

Dole Won't Attend GOP Convention

Says "she has a busy week" ...

Dear Senator Hagan.

I don't want to like you. You defeated my candidate, but that isn't why. I don't want to like you because of what you did several budget cycles ago, penning a secret Senate budget that came out with cuts in Medicaid for old, blind, disabled people so that wealthy people could get a tax cut.

It was immoral, and that is why I don't want to like you.

But, you're just making it too easy.....to not like you.

Dear Average Hard Working American,

You've cut back on groceries, you don't go to movies or out to eat any more, you don't drive on weekends if you can help it anymore, your expendable income is nil, you KNOW you're getting screwed six ways from Sunday because Big Oil is raking in record breaking windfall profits year after year, quarter after quarter, and laughing all the way to the bank -- and how do Senate Republicans feel about that?

Well, they obviously feel that all is finally right with the world!!!

Dark side poll shows Dole in dumps

Poor Liddy. Even the dark forces of the Civitas Institute can't come up with numbers that make her campaign look good. Dome has the story.

North Carolina's U.S. Senate race is starting off much more competitive than many people had thought.

Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole has a 45-43 percent lead over her Democratic opponent, state Sen. Kay Hagan, according to a new poll by released by the conservative Civitas Institute, Rob Christensen reports.

My final candidate post?

For part of 2006, all of 2007 and early 2008 my daily blogging life revolved around getting John Edwards elected President. During that time I did what I could to make it happen, not nearly as much as volunteers like NCDem Amy and Tom P. and not a drop in the bucket compared to the paid staff - Tracy Russo, Aaron Myers and the rest of the crew I got to know while volunteering at the office. When Senator Edwards dropped out of the race it felt like a kick in the groin. It was unexpected, it was painful. To me, John Edwards was really going to be the person that changed the system. I believe in him like people believed in JFK and RFK and as I told my wife "you only get one of these races every lifetime" and for me it wasn't or isn't about Obama it was about John Edwards.
But, he's out. So, after fluttering around for awhile I discovered the second-best candidate running in North Carolina, Dan Besse. Then, finally, I started blogging about the Neal/Hagan race. But, the thrill is gone. I'm all burnt out of candidate fights. I'm burnt out on fighting over he said/she said. I'm going back to issue blogging. At least, for now. So, this is it. This is my final blog on candidates.
