US Senate 2010

Memo to Richard Burr: 14th Amendment was not written by our Founders

A US Senator should know better:

http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2010/10/21/burr-debate/

The 14th Amendment was adopted in 1868 in part to specifically fix errors of the Founders. You know, that whole "slaves-are-less-than-a-person" thing.

Richard Burr, you are unworthy of being a US Senator.

Cal Cunningham on the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Progress

I wanted to share Cal Cunningham's recent statement on the hopeful, if not quite complete, progress being actively pursued on Capitol Hill towards the necessary repeal of the U.S. Military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

As anyone on BlueNC likely knows, I am a fervent Cunningham supporter and volunteer. But, as a member of PFLAG Winston-Salem and a long time champion of equality for all Americans, statements and a vision such as this one only reassures and validates my support of this great U.S. Senate candidate even further.

Obama screws progressives again

Can this "Democratic" White House be any less Democratic?

I'd swear Bush and Cheney were still in office if I didn't look at the calendar.

Enviros and homos get thrown under the Obama bus yet again.

...the man the Obama administration has chosen to take a stab at fixing the Gulf oil spill disaster. He's an avowed "proud homophobe," who thinks that "sodomites" are responsible for infecting "innocent victims" with AIDS, and he's an Al Gore hating climate change denialist too!

Was there really no one else?

Is there really any one left that thinks Obama -- or any candidate he is supporting in the primaries tomorrow (Blanche Lincoln, Arlen Specter) should be given another term?

I hope Arkansas and Pennsylvania Democrats give Obama and his minions at the DNC and the DSCC a swift kick in the groin.

NC's last statewide Democratic primary runoff

For your review:

NC's last Democratic primary runoff (called "2nd primary" by the BOE) was in 2008.

It was for the right to challenge GOP incumbent Cherie Berry for Commissioner of Labor.

We all know how that turned out...in 2008...a Democratic year.

A review of the runoff results is here.

A review of the November 2008 general is here.

Wave to the Elevator Lady! She's one of only two statewide elected GOPers.

Did a primary runoff help keep her there?

I'm not sure.

I do know that Richard Burr is now sitting in a very similar position.

Greetings to BlueNC from a Cal Cunningham supporter

Hey BlueNC, my name is Ashley S. Miller. I joined this site recently to meet the wonderful people who make up North Carolina’s online progressive community. I’ve posted a couple of times but I wanted to take the time today to make a formal introduction.

Going bankrupt due to illness? OK for Richard Burr but unacceptable to Cal Cunningham.

I feel a chill running down my spine as I open yet another envelope. I know that folded within is another medical bill I won’t be able to pay. The healthcare reform bill that was signed into law this week and praised by Cal Cunningham has the potential to change my life. My story isn’t really all that different from the stories of millions of other Americans who have played battle royale with health insurance companies. But I feel like my story needs telling, if only to provide a comforting nod of solidarity to others in similar circumstances.

New Burr Challenger - Republican!

Digging in Federal paperwork this week I came across an unfamiliar name that led to this curious statement on a Facebook page:

Have you noticed that Senator Burr has suddenly become a little more visible? The Party is concerned that he’s the most vulnerable Republican Senator preparing for 2010 elections. The John Locke Foundation states that he’s not unpopular just unknown and needs to define himself before the electorate. Where has he been since he first arrived in Washington in 1994? Fifteen years later and you’re still unknown, Senator? Where have you been hiding? You haven’t been in North Carolina listening to the people who elected you!

What to make of this? ...

Thank You

Dear Friends,

After giving a serious and thorough look at a race for the U.S. Senate, I have decided not to seek office at this time. This has been a very difficult decision, but I’m sure there will be another day and there are many other ways to serve.

I am deeply committed to public service and have a passion for working on the serious issues facing our State and country. A campaign for the Senate is about winning and working to be a part of the answer. As a candidate, I have to look supporters in the eye and show them how we win – and what we do when we get there. After a very careful look, I’ve concluded that this is the wrong race at the wrong time for me and my family.
