youth vote

Reaching non-college youth for GOTV:

A new report shows that non-college youth vote at levels nearly half of that for college students -- exacerbating the divide between economic levels when it comes to civic participation. Ideas for changing that statistic are welcome! (Or even just an answer as to why you would go on record as opposing youth voting as happened in Illinois!) From the Democracy NC Link of the Day:

Unleashing the youngun's on Blue NC...

Democracy Summer started today, which means ten of the best and the brightest college students in NC are going to be hanging around Dem NC for the next 9 weeks, learning the ropes of community organizing and communicating to others about our issues as well as getting out the vote. We'll have students in Greensboro, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Greenville and Winston-Salem if you have a speaking gig for them (maybe on Voter-Owned Elections or Youth Early Registration?). It's good practice for them and it's kind of refreshing to see their passion for government. Just email me if you want to try and arrange something. They'll also be over here on Blue NC learning the fine art of blogging (if anyone has any ideas on what that is!)... so be nice to them when you see them in these here parts!

Western NC GOP Calls Youth Voters "bunch of easily led, useful idiots"

The Western North Carolina Republican Party sent out a tweet this morning sharing an article about how students are indoctrinated by America-hating terrorist-loving radical left teachers and professors. If this is how the Republican Party is planning on winning the youth vote, they are as dumb as I thought:

So, this is why the youth vote went to Obama...because they're a bunch of easily led, useful idiots. Makes sense. http://bit.ly/b6Jm

Someone needs to tell the Republicans in North Carolina that voters don't like to be pissed on.

I wouldn't just post this without a call to action, so here it is:

If you're going to be 18 by November 4, you're eligible to vote. But even if you're not going to be 18 this year, you can get involved in this historic campaign to elect Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.
