Tata talk
In the wake (pun intended) of Art Pope choosing an inexperienced general to lead the largest school system in North Carolina, I did some reading to see exactly what the fuss is all about. Simply put, the guy's a doozie. For starters, he doesn't seem to have the brains god gave an animal cracker, as evidenced in this cliche-ridden tribute to Sarah "I quit" Palin:
She has a gritty determination borne in the salmon hauls and caribou hunts that make her pioneer tough.
Nor is he in touch with what most people would consider reality. At least four of the six adjectives he uses in this sentence are demonstrably not true:
Sarah Palin is precisely what the American people are seeking: an honest, intelligent, passionate, practical conservative who is nonpartisan and a tough decision maker.
There's a lot to read about the one-star wonder out there on the intertubes, most of which can probably be traced back to his brainwashing at West Point.

And there's this sweet little picture of his final status in his ultimate ego trip. Too bad Wake County didn't come to the same conclusion:
BlueNC is dedicated to making North Carolina a more progressive and prosperous state. If your intention is to disrupt this effort, please find somewhere else to express your opinions.

Writing
I'll grant the general this: he did something I've not been able to accomplish: He got two novels published. Kudos for that.
He was also inducted yesterday into the Show!
This gives me hope
that I might someday finish and publish a novel of my own, though I feel really really bad for the students of Wake County, they're getting screwed in this deal.
"Money doesn't talk, it swears." ~ R. Zimmerman
If you wanted to write about mayhem
and glorify the violence of war, you'd be home free. Then you too could be the superintendent of Wake County schools.
Just what we need. More militaristic bullshit.
Tata: The New Quitter?
We can always hope he'll follow in the footsteps of his idol, Sarah Palin, and QUIT halfway through his contract term.
He was only at the DC schools for only about 18 months, right?
Maybe Wake County will just get nine months out of him.
Generals running a school makes as much sense as
teachers commanding troops in battle.
This whole business of non-educators running schools is complete nonsense. I would allow that in certain cases a business or militiary background could help a person provide advice to a troubled school system, but the final decisions should be in the hands of a trained and experienced educator, hopefully one who spent many years in a classroom.

Despite the much better
Despite the much better supplement paid by the Wake County schools I have always preferred to teach in a poor school system nearby. Wake is a unique animal with tons of problems to go along with all their positives. The current edition of their BOE along with their new appointee to superintendent just reinforces how wise a decision not jumping ship and going over was. I'll take my poor county with all it's shortcomings any day.
I'm a moderate Democrat.
Maybe it's time for Ta-Ta to refudiate
Palin the Prevaricator. Not only is she a serial liar, she's also a dumbass.

More on Tata's lack of credentials
It seems some folks are trumpeting Tata's "10 month" training course in being a superintendent.
Let's take a look at what this training really was.
It was 6 four-day sessions. 24 days -- not 10 months.
Here's the academy's 2011 schedule.
I'm sure this academy is a wonderful program, but it is most certainly NOT ten months worth of training.
So...this Tata fellow has even less training than is being reported.
Let's see if this fact about this resume-enhancement of Tata makes it into the public discourse.
A one-star, 24-day wonder
proving himself to be nothing but a political puppet right out of the blocks.
I thought the School Board was Ta-ta's boss. Why the hell is he meeting with right-wing political groups? There's only one possible answer: Because Art Pope wants it that way.
How does it feel, Herr General, to be a pawn in a political game? And to think, you're not even on the freaking board yet.
It wasn't even his idea
to become an educator. He was approached by the foundation with a proposal, which "sounded right" to him.
I wonder what other careers would have "sounded right" to him if someone had prepared the way:
Lion tamer
Astronaut farmer
Mafia don
Ambassador to Eastasia
Neo-Impressionist
Gun-toting procuror of museum antiquities (I guess I could have just said, "Indiana Jones", but it wouldn't have been as funny)
After all these years
Just like everyone else in the Show, Brigadier Ta-ta doesn't know what it's like to work for a living in the private sector.
Still slopping at the public trough. Tsk. Tsk.
An invitation has been extended
via the WCPSS School Board for General Tata to speak at a Northern Wake Dems Meeting. I am hoping other groups will invite him as well.
To request General Tata to attend your group's meeting. Just email the WCPSS Board at

Good move
Keep us posted. I'll be offering a similar invitation to visit BlueNC. More than a third of our readership is from Wake County, which translates into several thousand people each week.
