Inspired by Larry Kissell’s ad about “Taking Our Country Back” I bring you a friendly reminder.
The fight for our nation’s future (I love MSNBC’s sensational words) does not end Nov 7th. Oh sure we can go to sleep once we know who wins, and maybe even take a few days off to recover. But this is just the beginning. No matter what happens the White House will still be occupied by the same party. But, we have a choice.
We can either complain about this country or we can do something. First, we have to win on November 7th. There is only one way to win, and that is to Get Out The Vote. Go knock on doors, make phone calls, email your neighbors. Do it in your local district, do it in your favorite netroots candidate’s district. Get your friends and family to work with us. Second, we have to wake up after November 8th ready to work this hard for two more years.
When we take the house we will have the ability to start changing this country. But we will be fought by the White House at every turn. The Democratic Party is not a party of obstruction. The Democratic Party is not a party of “cutting and running.” The Democratic Party is a party that believes in making America the best nation in the world. That does not mean saying we are the best.
Making this country the best nation in the world means working hard every day to bring the world as close to perfection as possible.
“There is nothing wrong with America that can’t be fixed with what is right with America.” -- John Edwards
We have a lot of work to do after November 8th. This country is stuck fighting a war we won 3 years ago. We have unacceptable levels of poverty. Too many Americans have little to no health insurance. The middle class backbone of this country is under attack. We are handing our children a bigger and bigger debt burden every day.
We can fix all of these things. But to fix these things we have to win November 7th. We have to fight and claw and dig for 2 years, and we have to win in November of 2008. And then, we will have to continue fighting, because we are NOT the only nation in the world, and we have a moral responsibility to take care of our fellow man, whether he lives in Georgia or she lives in Africa.
