Thoughts On Eating Our Own

Quite a bit of venom has been spewed over the back-room, old-style politics practised by North Carolina's Speaker of the House, Jim Black. Some of it has bordered on libelous. Some of it has been over-the-top. All of it is getting old.

Talk, talk, talk. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

It's time to take action.

After spending weeks promoting the 100 County plan - a plan where the people will build the party from the grassroots up, recruit candidates and promote the progressive brand, some here spent time yesterday planning to undo that good before it could even be done.

(snark)Shame on you.(/snark)

It was mentioned in the comments of Robert P.'s Diary that we should shout about the NC Democratic Party's corrupt ways from the rooftops of DailyKos. We don't need DailyKos to display our displeasure. We don't need to issue threats. we don't need anyone else to do our jobs for us. We are good enough, right here at BlueNC.

However, we do need a dedicated site where we can catalogue and profile all of the Democrats who endorse and embrace the ...ahem... leadership style of Jim Black.

Please meet, CorruptDems. It is currently a blogspot blog and I am the only one who can post blog posts at this time. I am hoping this site will not be needed. I'm hoping that after the wishes of the Democratic electorate are known to our representatives that they will vote for open and honest government.

If the NC Dems elect someone other than Jim Black for Speaker, this site disappears. There will not be a need for it. If Black is elected Speaker, then we may find a need to move the site, change the software and bring on more diarists. For now, it is simply a warehouse waiting to be filled with information about Democrats who refuse to move forward into an era of transparent leadership.

Googlebomb

If the site is needed, then we can google bomb the site to move it up in the search engine. I still have hopes that we will find absolutely no need for it. If we do have need for it, maybe those holiday recipes we're trading and collecting should include some for delicious dead meat. ;)

Guilty as charged

I confess to being wildly over the top on this whole speaker morass, and I don't see it letting up anytime soon. Redirecting that energy through Corruptdems seems like a worthy undertaking.

I do not believe in eating our own unless they are, in fact, corrupt. Because corruption betrays what I believe is the single most important commitment of public service: integrity.

I like the way you're thinking about this and I am happy to have a more constructive way to express my fears and worries.

Actually, we're all guilty

I guess it's time to put things a different way and I wanted to try to do it before the Dems caucus. They need to understand that we take their vote for Jim Black as an endorsement for a style of governing that we aren't going to accept any longer. We need to point out that what Black did doesn't have to be illegal to be wrong. It doesn't have to result in an indictment for them to be linked to a corrupt style of governing. I don't think they seriously believe that they will be held responsible for their actions.

I'll have a second post up later tonight on the site. I'm going to get some background information on the folks who have supported him in the past and see if there's any current info on where they stand now.

We've got a domain!!!

As in "Jim Black. Out."

It's Blogger-powered. There's nothing there yet, but PM me if you want to be added. There's also a generic login for those who want to remain anonymous...

I am so stealing that graphic

for the new template I'm going to attempt to slap together for blackout-nc over the next few days. With your permission, of course.

Hell, if you want to slap together a header graphic, that would be sweet!

Beautiful......

um...but a bit of advice. If you're going to print an entire political cartoon, please link through to the source. I realize it's signed, but we need to make sure we give credit where credit is due. We can probably get by with fair use but if we're going to print someone else's entire work make sure you give full credit. (It doesn't matter that it is signed.)

Maybe some people think that the current system works. It increased democratic majorities.

Who is going to legitimately run this "plan" of the "people"? Who are the leaders, who gets to make the decisions and who is democratically accountable?

I would suggest that the current setup of our party works well and doesn't need to be replaced by autocratic blogger rule.

I have my reservations about the NC democratic party being run by progressive bloggers. To actually accomplish something progressive, you have to get your hands dirty. Like conspiring to keep a democratic majority in the house.

I wouldn't want to see a party that engages in the messy game of politics and wins replaced by a party that is always right and never in power.
