Time to hand out some gold watches

To those Democrats who have outlived their usefulness:

Crawford, who had voted against the measure last month, decided Monday night to change his position and become vote number 72. "I’ve always voted pro-life. And I tried to stick with my crowd with the other vote because I knew it was going to pass. But when it comes down to informing people and that kind of issue, I just felt like it was important to let people know the consequences of abortion."

In other words, you (like so many of your anachronistic comrades) think that women are basically stupid, and need to be treated like hand-holding pre-k children. Well guess what, Jim? You're gonna to find out just how smart they are this Spring.

They all need to be primaried

Jim Crawford, Bill Brisson, Tim Spear, and Dewey Hill.

And it would be supremely ironic if these guys were beat by women Democrats. :)

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Crawford

"You're gonna to find out just how smart they are this Spring."

Maybe. Crawford is a slippery customer, moreover, his constituency aren't strictly speaking, your variety of Democrat. Additionally, and I'm not sure how this helps him, but he may have cut a deal with the majority to place him in his choice of the two new house districts that divide Granville County. On the first map, his College Street mansion was in the southern (and conservative-leaning) HD-02. But the other night, someone told me the line had been shifted to put his house in the minority-majority HD-32. Like I said, I don't know how that helps him if Ben Chavis comes home to run against him.

Let's hope for HD-32

Having him be replaced by a Progressive minority rep would be sweet revenge.

My variety

It may seem odd, but I was a registered Republican for a lot longer than I've been a Democrat.

I'll admit I've swung pretty hard to the left, but I can understand where a lot of those folks are coming from.

That's a gift, I think

to be able to understand where those folks are coming from. I can understand intellectually what they think and how that leads to certain actions, but I rarely can empathize with them.

It's all about education

And I don't mean to imply that Conservatives are uneducated. I'm talking about being educated about sociocultural issues, how government creates a net positive in their lives, etc.

Frankly, I think the average Conservative in this country has been hoodwinked. They've been convinced that the wealthy are somehow being held back, when in reality, the rich are doing so good I can't even bring myself to put together the statistics. It's too depressing.

Sometimes I think the wealthy have created the left/right conflict just so we won't notice what the hell they're up to.

Perhaps.

Maybe it's all been created to hide what they're doing from us, but more often than not, I suspect it's been created to hide what they're doing from themselves.

It's the only way I can fathom people willingly turning their backs on large segments of their neighbors who need help.

Wow - that's sounds awfully high and mighty, doesn't it? I guess it's a matter of perspective. It's hard to change my point of view with my heart bleeding all over the place. ;)

Conservatives are the heirs

Conservatives are the heirs of the Founders who knew from painful experience how oppressive governments can become. Hence, they act the way they do to what they see as extra-constitutional mission creep from the federal government. As for the wealthy, and I agree with this, I'm not on the soak the rich bandwagon because they also have rights...in particular, the right to vote with their feet and move to somewhere less hostile to themselves like Costa Rica and take their wealth with them. And data from the INS, the IRS, and several pollsters like Zogby indicate this is happening at the highest rate in U.S. history. Consequently, that leaves the working class who haven't the means to relocate themselves overseas to shoulder the increasing share of the tax burden. The state of Michigan and the city of Detroit are learning this lesson in excruciating fashion. An argument can thus be made that the poor can't afford to tax the rich excessively.
