Titan Cement switches lobbying firms

Dumping McGuire Woods in favor of Womble et al:

The company hoping to build a cement plant in New Hanover County has hired a new law firm to represent it as it trudges through the environmental permitting process.

Titan America recently hired Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice PLLC, which replaces John Merritt of McGuireWoods Consulting in Raleigh.

Which makes this as good at a time as any to remind legislators: SEPA is going to reveal some issues that have yet to be addressed, and you need to cast your net wide when seeking answers. Consider the source.

Oh good! WCSR of Xe fame

Womble Carlyle is building a reputation as the go-to guys when you need some dirty work done. And just think, if they can't win the old-fashioned way, they are BFFs with Erik Prince.

I must be more than just a little thick..

Why is this still up in the air?
What is it about building another bigger cement plant on a river that is already listed as "impaired" that makes any sense?

I'm must be more than just a little thick...Perhaps I'm not alone..
".to power the cement plan, Titan plans to use a mixture of coal, coke and maybe even tires."

So mercury released into the air & water isn't enough...

It's still up in the air

because way too many (seemingly) intelligent people in the Legislature and NC government refuse to acknowledge how industrial pollution has adversely impacted the air, land and water in our state, putting both our physical and economic health at risk in the process.

This one plant alone, which might provide an extra hundred or so new jobs, will increase North Carolina's atmospheric Mercury releases by a whopping 10%, along with a whole laundry list of other toxic elements. By any reasonable standard this project is indefensible, yet it's still being defended by those who (should) know better.
