Two over Ten, Will you Do It?

Folks, how much time can you spare to make a real difference? Can you spare two hours over ten weeks? Can you? As you may know, Health Care for All NC is a non-partisan, non-profit group that wants to give the citizens of North Carolina an Up or Down Vote on whether Health Care is a right or a privilege.

[ ] FOR [ ] AGAINST

Constitutional amendment providing that health care is a fundamental right.

Health Care for All NC supports no particular plan for implementing universal health care, that will be a decision made by the best and brightest that our state government pulls together for that purpose. Public-private hybrid, Massachusetts forced care, single-payer. All of these are options.

Health Care for All NC has members throughout the state. Physicians who are members of Physicians for a National Health Program, small business owners who have faced the decision to stay open or to give health care to their employees, retirees who want everyone to have the quality of care they do through Medicare, and church groups who believe that thousands dying from a lack of insurance is a moral outrage. In Two over Ten, all of these people come together, asking you to participate over the next ten weeks in educating your legislators.

If you can spare two hours over ten weeks, then please follow me to the rest of the article.

Thank you.

This education plan is simple.  Through non-partisan groups, networks of "educators" have been created throughout the state.  The goal of each "educator" is to establish a core group of FIFTEEN friends and acquaintances who will agree to help educate their local House member.  Each week a particular action item letter will be emailed to these core groups of supporters.  YOU can become a part of one of these groups, through BlueNC, or you can form your own group of fifteen friends.

When each individual emails the action item letter to their legislator, they will also BCC a member of Health Care for All.  Here is the key.  When that person receives your emails, he will make a note, and then this Raleigh group will follow up your action with a personal, one-on-one visit to that legislator.  They will deliver supporting materials for whatever that week's action item might be.

We here at BlueNC have already made a difference, new sponsors and co-sponsors have stepped up for Health Care for All.  Others have expressed their support for the bill, or have asked for more information, including several Republican House members that were originally skeptical!

Who among our legislators have agreed that agreed that North Carolinians deserve an Up or Down Vote on whether health care is a right or a privilege? This is the latest listing I have seen, but I note that several known supporters are not on it.

So, how do you become involved?  How do you become the next "educator" for our legislature?  First, if you want to start your own network of 15 friends, neighbors, activists, you can email the man behind the plan.  Second, if you want to work within the BlueNC network, you can email me.

Over the next ten weeks, we have the opportunity to fight the corporate noise machine that has millions of dollars to spend, which it will, to kill Health Care for All.  Even as uninsured children continue to die, they will fight for their "right" not to insure them, and they will battle against your right to have health care.  Join in Two over Ten and show that people, not profits, run this state.

Good program Robert

I've sent my email.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Way to go Momo.

Thanks.

I'm ready to get my group started right away. Email sent!!

Deep and wide.

A majority of North Carolinians are ready for universal health care, we can make it happen.

It's a moral obligation

n/t

I'm taking this resolution to my county convention

(The wording comes from a similar Watauga County rez)

Right to Health Care
Forwarded to the convention from Jonas Ridge precinct

Whereas almost one third of North Carolinians (2.5 million people) are without health insurance coverage during at least part of each year and another million North Carolinians have inadequate health insurance coverage, and

Whereas nearly half of individual bankruptcy filings are related to medical bills, and

Whereas the uninsured receive fewer health-care services and are more likely to suffer from preventable health problems, and

Whereas most uninsured adults have jobs but cannot afford health insurance, and

Whereas many of those families with health insurance are susceptible to losing it due to unemployment resulting from a layoff or a serious accident or illness, and

Whereas this resolution has been repeatedly adopted by the Party and the need for it increases every year as the General Assembly refuses to address it due to resistance by the health insurance and health care industries,

Therefore be it resolved that the North Carolina Democratic Party use all of its influence to encourage the 2007 General Assembly North Carolina General Assembly to support Representative Verla Insko's Bill on the Right to Health Care (House Bill 901); this bill would give voters the opportunity to decide by referendum whether the North Carolina Constitution should be amended to guarantee that residents of our state enjoy the right to health care, just as it does the right to education. If the resolution passes it would mandate that the General Assembly create a plan to bring about affordable health care for all in the state.

“All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.”
So enjoy the drama.

Check your email, Robert.

I have a request

My rep - Drew Saunders - has never, ever responded to one email from me. I would certainly appreciate it if everyone here would take the time to email Drew Saunders and Becky Carney from Mecklenburg County. They both need to be flooded with emails. I would certainly appreciate the help with those two.

how to do this

Hi
I am signed up and waiting for instructions from brooks. Then I contact my team of fifteen? I would contact mecklenburg people Saunders and Carney, not as effective as when someone from their district contacts them. But likely to let them know it is a broadly organized movement.

I am looking forward to participating in this. I have tried to find some folks in Dare and Union and Cabarrus to get involved. There has already been increased interest in cosponsoring the bill perhaps because of the flurry of emails.

Contact them if you have time

I think if they get contacted from inside and outside their districts they will get a better idea of the support. As a rep wouldn't you rather take an issue to the people of your district rather than being called out for not being on top of important issues? I think some reps are lazy and wait to see if it's important for their district instead of taking the time to make it important for their district.

He should contact you soon.

He takes Sunday off of doing this kind of work, so it might be early next week. As for those who have contacted me, I'll be on it tomorrow.
