Unleashing the youngun's on Blue NC...

Democracy Summer started today, which means ten of the best and the brightest college students in NC are going to be hanging around Dem NC for the next 9 weeks, learning the ropes of community organizing and communicating to others about our issues as well as getting out the vote. We'll have students in Greensboro, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Greenville and Winston-Salem if you have a speaking gig for them (maybe on Voter-Owned Elections or Youth Early Registration?). It's good practice for them and it's kind of refreshing to see their passion for government. Just email me if you want to try and arrange something. They'll also be over here on Blue NC learning the fine art of blogging (if anyone has any ideas on what that is!)... so be nice to them when you see them in these here parts!

Very great!

Let them loose to start thinking creatively about how to further the Democracy NC agenda with BlueNC as a platform and resource. The sky's the limit: live blogs, polls, daily briefings, etc. Plus it would be great if we could learn more about them as individuals ... maybe do profiles?

Are they every going to physically be in the same place all together?

This is a great idea

Please let them know they are more than welcome here, and we'll be glad to attempt to answer any questions they may have (openly or PM/e-mail) about blogging in general or BlueNC specifically.

Thanks for the Dem Summer welcome!

This is one of our most uplifting programs all year. It's impossible to work with these young men and women and not have hope for the future! I'll definitely have them do profiles for their Dem Summer blog (taking photos tomorrow)and the idea of a daily briefing or some other check-in sounds really great to me. We do a good job of training them in our issues and organizing techniques, but I think they would benefit from learning how to recognize and read the different political groups in NC, how to navigate them and bring them together, when possible, and what other issues are important to the people of NC.

James -- they will be together through this Friday only. Right now, they are immersion training near our offices in Durham. It would be totally and completely awesome if you could join us at 11:30 AM tomorrow (Thursday) when I talk about blogging (your blogging workshop was immensely helpful to me ) or, if that doesn't work for you, I am sure we could work out another time on Thursday or Friday for you to meet them. Otherwise, they'll be identifying themselves here so they'll be easy to spot!

Unfortunately I have slammed schedule tomorrow and can't break in the middle of the day. :(

No worries..

... I'll be preaching the gospel of James to them anyway! :) Look for them here and let's see how they do.
