Update from Billy Kennedy (NC-5)

From JESSE PRESNELL with the "Draft Committee"

UPDATE: Rumors of a Decision

Thanks again for helping us break our goal of 600 members by the 1st of January. Let’s push the draft effort over the top by getting 700 members by February 1. Please stay tuned. Rumor from the “Draft Billy Kennedy” committee is that he intends to make an official announcement of his intentions on February 8th. I’m hoping he will say yes! If you want to be involved, please let me know.

Okay folks

Now that I'm a freshly renewed Democrat, you can expect to be harassed by me to no end when it comes to building Democratic majorities in Raleigh and Washington. We helped put Larry Kissell on the map and rid Congress of the odious Robin Hayes, and now we need to turn our attention to NC-5 where our state suffers under the bigotry and ignorance of one of the most embarrassing representatives in Washington. You got it: Virginia Foot-in-Mouth Foxx.

In April, during a speech about a plan to ban bonuses for some financial executives, she used the term "tar baby," a phrase that has meant different things in the past but is now widely seen as a blatant racial slur.

A few weeks later, Foxx said that it was a "hoax" to characterize the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard as a hate crime. Testimony indicated that Shepard was targeted by thugs in Wyoming because he was gay.

When Foxx made her comments, Shepard's mother was present in the House as hate-crime legislation was debated. Foxx later apologized. Sort of.

During debate over health-care reform, Foxx said that proposals favored by Democrats would "put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government." She went on to say: "We have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist."

I don't know a lot about the 5th District, but the folks around here who do say Billy Kennedy is taking this draft movement seriously, as well he should. But no decision to take on a well-funded incumbent can be made lightly, and Mr. Kennedy needs to know that people all over the state are behind him. While it's true that a member of Congress should be first and foremost focused on his or district, it's also true that every vote taken affects people all across the state and the nation.

Go sign Mr. Kennedy's Facebook page.

From all I can find out about Virginia Foxx, she is a narrow-minded bigot who doesn't have the brains god gave an animal cracker. The people of NC-5 deserve better - and so do the people of North Carolina.

James

PS Regarding my comment about Larry Kissell. I have plenty of bones to pick with our new Congressman from the 8th, but I am sure glad he's in Washington instead of Robin Hayes. I won't agree with Kennedy on all the issues either, but from what I've learned, he seems to be a person who can and will think critically about important issues. That's more than enough for me.

More on Kennedy

Oh my goodness!

James, James ! Here it is early on a Friday morning and you just HAD to send us to that KOS page with that amazing picture of Virginia Foxx !! Blahhhh ! :(

I could not agree more that Foxx is an embarrassment to not only the 5th district (which thankfully I do not live in) but to the entire state of NC. I signed the Kennedy petition. I hope everyone here at BlueNC will also.

I know

It's tempting to have fun with her personal craziness, but we need to stay focused on her policy incompetence. I used to use that picture here at BlueNC, but it seems to cruel in light of my new philosophy.

You are right

Sorry.

But...damn !

No worries

It's not often that a person who IS bat-shit crazy actually looks bat-shit crazy. She's one of a kind, thank goodness.

626 and counting

Please spread the word and get your friends to join the Draft Billy Kennedy movement.

Hey James

Question:

What is the site that pops up when we go to your Do Good Be Nice Have Fun page?

Thanks.

I wasn't aware, but it's a hijack page ... I'll have to find some way to get rid of that.

Having been born in & grown up in

the 5th district, I definitely hope this guy gets into the race. I like everything I've heard about him as compared to Foxx for a while now, ever since I join that group a while back. And I've invited every independent & left leaning contact I know from in and around that area.

I haven't yet invited everyone I know to the group, I probably will if & when he officially declares, but I figure my facebook friends can use a break after the tons of messages & invites they got from me whilst Volunteer Coordinating during the recent Kleinschmidt mayoral campaign here in Chapel Hill.

634 on Sunday at noon.

Facebook picked up ten "followers" over the weekend. One of them was the Dome. You're on the radar in Raleigh!

But tell me this. Why aren't we shooting for 5000?

Made this post a while back

on the facebook group, back when it broke 500+ supporters:

Just for point of reference, Congressman David Price, who represents the triangle area, perhaps the most democratic area in the state with tons of colleges & young people (the kinds likely to be on facebook), and his support page has just over 800 people & his page has been up for a while. Given that reference point, I think this Kennedy group has done amazingly by breaking 500. Keep up the good work!

Given how quickly they've gotten to where they are, I think they are doing great, but never hurts to aim high.

James
