On the US Supreme Court ruling
This is a statement that I released to the press with regards to the Supreme Court ruling from earlier today.
- Ken Lewis
By a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court today issued a dangerous ruling that will allow big business to take control of our elections. Huge corporations can now spend unlimited amounts of money to elect their friends and to defeat candidates who stand up for the interests of regular Americans. Big corporate polluters, huge health insurance companies, predatory lenders, and large Wall Street banks all will be able to tighten their stranglehold on elections in our country.
In an arrogant display of judicial activism, the court threw out its own precedents and almost a century of settled law to reach its disturbing ruling. Justice Stevens was right when he wrote in his dissent, 'The court's ruling threatens to undermine the integrity of elected institutions around the nation.'

Thanks, Ken
Thanks for commenting on this. Good words.
I've been in a tailspin all day ... wondering how to start a company and make a bazillion dollars so I can start buying my own seats in Congress.

Unreal ruling
Now that it is "acceptable" to go against progressive thought in America, is this kind of ruling by the Court what we will be seeing?
This ruling will only make the republicans stronger. A ruling against it would NOT make the democratic party stronger. This is blatant, in my view. Sad day.
Great comments, Ken...
This ruling is very upsetting. It takes power away from the average voter, and makes it even easier for industry titans (Oil and Coal companies, for instance) to control Washington.

Supreme Court challenge to democracy
This ruling is the biggest challenge to democracy in the USA that I can ever remember. It is a result of the old Supreme Court ruling that recognizes corporations as persons having all the same rights as individuals. What we really need now is a constitutional amendment that specifies that constitutional rights only apply to individuals and rights of corporations must be specified by law.
You are correct, but it shouldn't need an amendment.....
This is like giving "double representation" to the wealthiest amongst us. I think it was the Federalist who originally wanted the right to vote to be given only to the land owners only. That was quickly righted somewhat, so as to include the 'male citizenry, and eventually people of color and women. But I think they thought the constitution was for the citizens of this United States. But now we are to give the parasites of the corporations an "extra" voice to protect their right to control the rest of us. Maybe we should add a "House of Lords" to the Congress so it could be visible and let us know who's in charge!
Corporate Sponsorship In Palin Alaska?
Test TV 15 sec ADS at a local Tea Party focus group?
" When you hunt Democrat Wolves! Hunt with Nike Boots and Mr Winchester like Sara Palin does!"
"Comfort Inn! The Home of Sara Palin when on the tough Lipton Tea Bag Campaign?"
" Ford Motor! The answer to Government Obama Motors! Put a Sara Palin in your Thunderbird!"
" Exxon! The Only Oil Company that Sara Palin got payback for it's citizens"
" Haliburton! When you got to go to War! Let Sara Palin do it with our Services and Products!"
" Fox Network! The Sara Palin Information Center for the 21 st Century!"
" Viagra! When you race for the White House! Do as the Sara Palin family does!"
" American Express! Never leave Sara Palin Alaska without it!"
" Jiffy Lube! The only real change that Sara Palin uses!"
" Goldman Sachs! The only Bank Sara Palin uses when it comes to cashing checks at!"
And finally!
" Activia! The only product Sara Palin uses to get the politics out of her system!"
The other day I was wondering...
just how much money is raised and spent on campaigns. I can see how much the 2008 presidential candidates spent here. But what about the total raised and spent for all races across the board? Can't find that but if I could I'll bet a significant sum is spent on television ads, local and national. Sorta like Christmas all year long during an election cycle.
Call me TinFoilHatMan, but media conglomerates must be salivating at the SCOTUS ruling the other day.

I've seen several Tweets on the topic
that basically said:

I looked at this (or tried to)
in preparation for our radio show the other night, and I came up with 1.4 billion in the Presidential race and 1.6 billion in the combined (U.S.) House and Senate races. I'm pretty sure that doesn't include 3rd party expenditures, which are now going to shoot through the roof, and it didn't cover all the state & local elections either. But I think we can safely call it an "assload" of money, anyway.
The Corporate Cadillac Escalade Palins
Butler said Bristol also is driving a brand-new $60,000 Cadillac Escalade, which he suspects is a gift from Sarah Palin, who recently finished up a book tour for her blockbuster "Going Rogue." The former Alaska governor was the Republican candidate for vice president when it was revealed that her daughter was pregnant.
