Veto them all, Bev

From Binker:

The General Assembly adjourned Saturday, with more than 200 bills landing on or headed to Gov. Bev Perdue's desk in a relatively short period of time. For the bills that arrive Monday (6/20), she will have until June 30 to sign or vet.

My advice, Governor? Veto them all. I'll even write the speech for you.

My fellow citizens,

After months of behind-closed-doors deal-making, bribery, and political whoring, North Carolina Republicans have dumped a barrel of bills on my desk, bills thrown together at the last minute without the benefit of any public input or thoughtful consideration. I am going to give these bills the same careful attention they received in the General Assembly. That is to say, I am not even going to bother to read them before I veto them. Every. Single. One.

The people of this state expect me to be a steward of our traditional values and of our future. I cannot in good conscience go along with the Republican race to the bottom. I cannot in good conscience sign bills that would undermine the quality of our environment and our education system. I cannot in good conscience sign bills that make it harder for people to vote. I cannot in good conscience sign any of the bills that have come to my desk this week.

I was hoping that the Republicans in the General Assembly would have focused on the one thing that matters most to the people of North Carolina: jobs, jobs, jobs. If they had sent me a bill that put more people back to work or helped protect middle class families from economic disaster, I would have been happy to sign it. Instead, I got hundreds of special favors for special interests and millionaires, not one of which will do a damn thing to help this state be more competitive in the 21st century. Not a damn thing.

And so it is with a sad and angry heart that I tell Senator Berger and Representative Tillis that I will not be a party to their irresponsible actions. I will not be complicit in dismantling the progress we have made in this state over the past 100 years.

I will veto every bill they have sent me.

The master plan is coming together

At the national level, it's just like France in the middle of the 18th century. And it's even more sickening right here in the Old North State.

Median compensation for CEOs in the group jumped 30 percent, to $3.9 million annually. The executives at the top of the list offer a snapshot of the state's economy: two tobacco leaders, an apparel chief, a banker, and the bosses of energy, defense, technology, health lab testing and retail firms.

And to think, the NCGOP wants to give these leeches even more tax breaks. If this doesn't make you sick to your stomach, you're either brain dead or a Republican.

Oh wait. Those seem to be the same thing these days.

Some of the bills definitely should be vetoed. I don't know what is in all of them. It sounds like even some of the Republicans don't know the details.

I Tired ! Let's bash those Gays again?

It's hard for any Republican to think with a mind set IQ of 12......

Well this explains alot...

As Speaker, Tillis has prized efficiency, which isn’t surprising given his background in management consulting. But he’s more familiar with the fast-paced private sector than the often deliberate legislature. For the most part, his caucus has gone along with it, though many are older, and some have medical challenges.

Only old white men off their meds could vote for garbage like that.

Progressives are the true conservatives.

Tillis

I work with consultants every day, and some of them are really smart. But two cautionary notes apply in the case of Tillis.

First, many consultants know nothing about actually running a business. They make money helping other people run businesses ... often to help them deal with regulatory changes. I can't say for certain, but I'd bet a lot of money that Tillis is one of many Sarbanes-Oxley millionaires ... consultants who struck gold providing new technology so companies (banks in particular) could comply with Sarbox. He hates government except when he's getting rich from it.

Second, most of the consultants I know are not greedy sons-of-bitches. Some are arrogant, perhaps deservedly so, but most are not imperialist, testosterone-poisoned assholes like little Thommy Tillis.

Well, considering his meteoric rise

through the ranks (who would have predicted he'd be selected as Speaker?), Tillis' political beliefs simply can't be the driving force behind his ascension. And I doubt it's his business acumen, either.

There's got to be something deeper, and probably more sinister, like maybe some puppet strings. I know that sounds conspiracy-theorist-ish, but ever since he was chosen, I've been trying to figure out why. And I'm drawing a blank. Which usually means there's something missing that someone wants to remain missing.

Everything has already been said..

So I'll just pile on..

Veto every single that has been passed in this last-minute rush. The Radical Republicans have already decided these bills don't deserve thoughtful consideration.

Thanks for the pile on

You zeroed in on the main point.

Bev should give this crap the same consideration the GA gave it. In other words, don't even bother to read it. Just rush it out the door ... into the dumpster.

Fuck em.

A big VETO party

Monday afternoon...on the front steps of the Legislative building.

Love it

Wish I could be there. Maybe 20,000 out of work dads would make the point.

as an out of work dad.....

I would be there

More Thoughts on the VETO Party

The Democratic Party and groups supporting the Governor should pony up for bus fare for every educator who has received a pink slip for next school year to attend the party.

June 30 at noon...that would meet the deadline for bills delivered to her today.

I understand "one person one vote"....

But I hate the notion that the bicameral legislatures that mirrored the U.S. Congress were somehow unconstitutional.

It seems to me the interests of North Carolinians of all ages, races, political ideologies, etc. are best served by going back to one Senator per county, and house districts drawn by population. Over the past decades, we have seen interests of rural counties in the east and the west trampled by the urban and suburban majorities in Mecklenburg, Wake, and Guilford.

That may be liberal heresy...if so, I stand guilty as charged.

You are not a real American If You ....

don't take care of your poor, middle class, their health, keeping their jobs, their education, securing their property from the greedy Wall Street money changers, sending your Sons and Daughters to endless wars and dying in vain for foreign and Corporate interests, Bankrupting the young with massive debt for the future that cannot be paid. And finally letting the Rich get richer without them paying their fair share of taxes, along with the endless unconstitutional laws of a Police State that takes away your civil and personal liberties forever and forcing the State to make all citizens Religious with the myths of a 18 th century Religious insane mind set..The Republican Paradise does not exsist nor has ever exsisted in ancient and modern history..
