Voter Photo ID bill vetoed: Thank you!
Dear Blue NCers,
I know there is another veto thread but I wanted to post a special thank you to all of you who contacted the Governor's office and encouraged her to veto the voter photo ID bill. The veto went through just before 5 PM, and the state is saved from spending millions on this unneeded bill -- not to mention the shame of making it harder for hundreds of thousands of citizens to vote (including my sweet old dad).
It could not have happened without you. We flooded her in-box and office with messages. Thank you so much. I know that some of you, like me, did not realize the impact and true intent of this bill at first, but were convinced by the facts, the numbers and the concerted national effort to impose these bills in battleground states. I appreciate that you kept an open mind and took action.
Yes, there are so many more battles to fight, but isn't it good to take a few moments to enjoy a win?
Stand by for a way to thank Perdue publicly in the next couple of days. It took some courage to do that and she deserves props for it.

Not enough to override
I forget the exact numbers, but according to the Observer it didn't pass with nearly enough Dem support to overcome a veto.
Unless something changes, the veto is safe
I think you are asking if the veto could be overridden? If so, unless some Democrats change their mind, the GOP does not have enough support to override her veto. The measure passed originally 66-48 along party lines, and I believe at least 4 Democrats have to vote with the GOP in order to get enough people to override a veto. So, unless four Dems switch sides on this issue, voter photo ID will not become law.

Veto numbers
There are 120 House members total - 67 Republicans, 1 Independent who hangs with them, and 52 Democrats. It takes 3/5ths of the members present to override a veto, or 72. If all members are present and all 68 non-Democrats vote to override they still need 4 Democrats to get to 72. If they waited until 7 Democrats were missing and pulled a fast one they could override with just 68. A 66-48 vote means some members were missing from both sides.
Yay!!!
Never hurts to keep up the pressure on the Dems most likely to waiver, but hopefully already being on the record means they'll stick to their guns on this one.
If they do override, it's lawsuit time
