An editorial in the N&O does a decent job examining the screw up by the NC Ports Authority and Department of Transportation last week when they feted public officials at a Tall Ships party in Beaufort.
Watergate it's not. But this is a disgrace nonetheless, and those who participated owe their constituents, be they citizens whose mayors were there or those in legislative districts, a candid apology. And let's hope officials will have enough sense, the next time such a junket is proposed, to drop anchor on the notion.
I just wish the N&O could find similar resolve and clarity of thinking when it comes to the never-ending stream of corruption spilling from the right wing criminals inside and outside of government. Their activities make the Tall Ships saga look like childs play.
No, Watergate it's not. Nor is it Plamegate, Rovegate, Haliburtongate, Torturegate, Abramoffgate, Taylorgate or Popegate. No, it's not like reporters and editors don't have plenty of material to work with. The track record of the Bush administration is a record of greed and graft that is breathtaking. And where is the N&O's coverage of the State Board of Elections decision to haul in the Puppetmaster's crooked organization? I've seen no news story and no editorial comment whatsoever.
