We have been left to die
In the past few days, while painstakingly filling out my 1040A and D-400's and hearing what seems like non-stop rhetoric about sacrifice and reducing the deficit, I've found it very hard to conceal my rage and disgust at the corporations who have found a way to avoid paying taxes altogether. Though we've long been aware that businesses spend horrific amounts on lobbying to congress to get them to create loopholes and shelters, to then have congress turn around and rail against federal spending is nothing short of insulting. For weeks my senses have been inundated with bluster from capitol hill demanding that social programs and unions be sacrificed to feed the monster of our national debt. Knowing that these hollow charlatans are completely in the pocket of corporate donors makes their cries for cuts all the more infuriating. I cannot contain my ire any longer. If multi-billion dollar corporations, the super-rich, and their apologists demand still more from those of us who are already suffering and refuse to offer anything in return, then they have no place in this country.

Lots of us agree
but what to do? Go postal. I'm almost there.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Lately I've been getting lots of checks from BA and from WF
And I go in and cash the checks. I am always asked if I want to open an account with the bank. I already have an account at a credit union and have had one there for a little over 30 years. When they keep pushing, I tell them that I do my banking at a place that doesn't launder money for South American drug cartels (Wells Fargo/Wachovia). To that I can now add - when they keep pushing me - that I pay my taxes and won't bank with a business that doesn't pay their fair share of taxes and expects me to pick up the slack for them.

Want to see how your taxes are spent? Go here...
This is a new service of the Obama Admin...transparency...telling us how our dollars are generally being flushed down the war toilet and so on.
This is a Government website. Go here and enter your tax data and see how they pissed it away...mostly. Wonder what this cost?

If you "mouse over" the spending categories
you'll see more detail. 50+ percent of what you paid ...excluding paying into the Social Security and Medicare Insurance Programs (NOT an entitlement you stupid GOP oafs) likely went for "Defense" and "Health Care."
Rub the shiny bullshit off those categories and underneath you'll see this is mostly money being flushed down the toilet in the Mid-east and to pay for health care for people who don't have insurance, or to keep someone's Granny in a skilled Nursing Facility because she can't pay for it otherwise, and a variety of other things that a comprehensive single-payer plan would likely solve...while letting people pay their share to get benefits when they need them...rather than paying nothing and letting the public fund their care.
Anyway...about 7% was interest on the debt.
Look for yourself...

The Sunlight Foundation has a good feature on this
Sadly, the Electronic Government Fund, which finances Data.gov, the IT Dashboard and USASpending.gov, was cut from $35 million to just $8 million in this most recent budget. But the Sunlight Foundation, which does the Lord's work on federal transparency and accountability, is still hard at work. Here's a clip from an e-mail I got from them today:
