What tonight's victory in Wake means:

Am sitting here deeply relieved (and getting ready to have a celebratory drink) but I feel the need to connect with my comrades-in-arms here on Blue NC: in Wake County tonight, a moderate candidate just beat the GOP-anointed Tea Party candidate for school board by around 4% in a district pretty much evenly split along partisan lines. This despite the GOP throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars, mailer after mailer with the worst kind of rhetoric, having Pat McCrory and the local sheriff make calls on the Tea Party candidate's behalf and relentless calling of their base and Unaffiliateds. They threw everything they had at this race -- and they lost. They lost because the other side canvassed and knocked on doors and matched them message for message and never let up the pressure.

It was exhausting but it proves it can be done, that some things just can't be bought. That is good news for people who oppose regressive policies and over-the-top partisan rhetoric based on fear and lies. We are going to have to work our butts off race-by-race, but it can be done because we proved it tonight. I think that's good news for 2012.

Over-reaching

This is the Achilles heel of the Pope Tillisberger. They don't know the meaning of the word moderation. Drunk with power, they've behaved in ways that regular people just won't stomach.

Great job to all those, including you, who made this a priority and got out the vote.

Savor the moment.

Thank you

Katy,

Many thanks to you and Progress NC for your work on this. I hate that it had to be dirty but I feel you were just fighting fire with fire. I always wondered if Dems would ever fight back and give these asshats a taste of their own medicine. It has been amusing watching Heather play the victim. The Republicans pull this crap all the time and they finally got it thrown back in their face. Well played, and congrats to Kevin Hill. Maybe now we can get back to educating kids.

Next stop, the General Assembly.

Have that drink, Katy

You deserve it. Great job. :)

I'm thrilled

Not only am I thrilled about tonight's results, I'm thrilled to be back at BlueNC after 3 years away.

Wake County school board snatched back from crypto-racists!

Zygote-personhood defeated in Mississippi! (I used to live there--I am pleasantly surprised by the margin.)

Union-busting referendum defeated in Ohio!

College students and busy working-class people in Maine retain the franchise!

"Small"-government, "papers, please" Arizona legislator Russell Pearce successfully *recalled from office*!

If the left can keep this momentum up through next year, who knows what we can achieve?

Hello to familiar names and new. My wife and I are homeowners now and live in Garner.

Ms. Munger, are you any relation to Prof. Michael Munger of Duke University?

Hey, Branden!

Glad to have you back, sir.

No relation, just a friend

It's hard to believe we're not related as there are not that many Mungers floating around, Brranden, but Mike Munger and I apparently come from two very different Munger family trees. I believe his Mungers come from New England; my Munger genes hail from Michigan and Illinois. He's a great guy, though, and a brilliant mind. I'm proud to share my name with him!

BTW, you are quite right about last night -- good news just about everywhere!

No relation

Yes, no relation I know of. I've asked her several times to marry me, but she's holding out. She wouldn't even have to change her last name! Jeez....

Any chance you'll run for office again?

Is that what it will take...

...for us to have lunch again? :)

If you take a cue from James...

.. and say "pretty please" it just might work, Mike! Of course, then we'd have to get into a whole discussion about being careful what you wish for.

I'm with James -- when ARE you running for office again? You would get my vote (again!). I believe I even still have some posters left over from my 10th grade run for class president emblazoned with the immortal words, "We Hunger for Munger!" Catchy, no?
