Wherein I am interviewed by Laura Leslie
Yours truly may be having his 15 seconds of fame tonight in a story on WRAL-TV by Laura Leslie. She and her camera guy stopped by yesterday for a quick chat. You never know what will actually show up on teh teevee when you do this sort of thing, but for the record, here's what I had to say.
- If the past is any indication of the future, fewer than 20 percent of North Carolina citizens are going to decide whether to enshrine discrimination into our constitution in the May(be) primary.
- I'd rather not see a primary challenge to Governor Perdue, but if there's going to be one, four things are likely to happen. First, Democratic turnout will increase overall, which increases the likelihood of the Marriage Discrimination Amendment being defeated. Second, the challenger will get his ass kicked and lose in dramatic fashion. And third, the primary will make it more difficult for Perdue to win in the fall. Which means, fourth, Pat McCrory's chances of becoming governor would improve.
- Republican leaders in the General Assembly are gang-raping our state, while most citizens of North Carolina sit by and watch with their hands in their pockets. The only person standing in the way of our state becoming a second-rate Alabama is Bev Perdue.
- I don't like everything Perdue does. But don't compare her to the almighty, compare her to the alternative. When it comes to abortion rights, education, and equality for all citizens, Bev Perdue is our best shot.
- All that said, the more primaries in down-ticket races the better. We need record Democratic turnout all across the state to defeat the Marriage Discrimination Amendment. However, I would rather not see a primary between Price and Miller. (Miller should run in his "old" district, even though he doesn't live there anymore. He should nationalize that race by making sure his opponent is named Gerry Mander (R-NC).)

Good job
I didn't see the segment, but I read it, and your comments were apt.

Thanks.
Thanks.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Hope they give you more
than the typical 6-sec sound bite!
Didn't actually get even that
not that I could see ... but I did get a reference in the online "print" version.
My takeaway: Steer clear of the mainstream media. Even the best reporters are operating in straight jackets.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
