Whose Congressman is he?

As you drive around Moore County, you see them – sporadically, because he’s never taken us very seriously – but they’re there all the same. The signs: Our Congressman: Howard Coble. But whose Congressman is he?

When gas prices rose to the point where many of us had to choose between putting gas in the car or paying other bills, Rep. Coble voted against cracking down on the oil and gas industries prices gouging. (HR 3402, Vote #500, 9/28/2005)

Rep. Coble voted for the GOP energy bill that gave billions to oil, gas and nuclear industries. (HR6, vote #445 7/28/2005)

Over his career, Rep. Coble has accepted $62,400 from big oil and gas industries.

Whose Congressman is he?

Rep Coble voted to strip overtime protection from millions of American Workers. (HR 2660 vote #351, 7/10/2003)

In this election cycle alone, Howard Coble has raised more $385,000. 67% of that came from Big Business PACS.

Whose Congressman is he?

Howard Coble voted against allowing the re-importation of drugs from Canada – a measure that would have saved Americans on fixed incomes hundreds of dollars - even though the drugs were US made and patient safety was ensured.

Howard Coble voted for the disastrous Medicare Prescription Plan. (You know, the one that is such a failure, they graded themselves and gave it a “D”.) One of the hidden features of this plan is that it prevents negotiation with the drug companies. Imagine! The biggest insurance group in the world, and they can’t negotiate a better price. Also, this is the plan with the infamous “donut hole” – the gap that leaves millions of seniors on fixed incomes without coverage. My own mother was without coverage for nearly 6 months this year. Of course, she still had to pay the insurance premiums.

Pharmaceutical Companies and other big drug interests have donated $250,736 to Howard Coble over his career.

Whose Congressman is he?

Rubberstamp Howard Coble voted with Tom Delay 89% of the time (through 3/31/2006) even when Delay moved to weaken House Ethics rules. He's voted party line 95% of the time, and with the Bush Administration 81% of the time.

Whose Congressman is he?

Howard Coble voted to continue awarding contracts to Halliburton even if the Pentagon’s own audit processes found that more than $100 million of their contractor’s costs in Iraq were unreasonable.

Howard Coble opposed extending the military's TRICARE health insurance program to thousands of Reservists and National Guard members, even though thousands of reservists between the age of 19 and 35 have no health care coverage.

Howard Coble voted against a bonus of $1500 to every American service member serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, including National Guard and Reserve forces.

Whose Congressman is he?

Howard’s Sharp Pencil PAC has made donations to various candidates that he supports – here are some of my favorites: Charles Taylor (NC), Vernon Robinson (NC), Robin Hayes (NC), and George Allen (VA). When you total all of the Republican candidates to which Sharp Pencil has donated, the sum doesn't seem like much. A mere $58,000. But that’s more money that many of Howard’s constituents will ever see in a year.

Whose Congressman is he?

In 1995, he voted for Term Limits, which would have limited him to 12 years in office. He voted the same way in 1997. If he followed his own "advice", he would have left office in 1996.

Whose Congressman is he? Not mine.

GOP Congressmen from NC

suck. Sadly, there's not a dime's worth of difference between any of them. They are an embarrassment to North Carolina.

Very, very nice work lcloud.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

Boy oh boy. You're getting good at this!

I knew Coble was another Party of Torture and Greed hack, but I never realized he was also such a lamebrained idiot.

Keep 'em coming.

WARNING: Cutting and Pasting.

For those of us who blog on Blogger or other sites, it is tempting to cut and paste from there to here. But, unfortunately this site does not like all of the codes from those sites. For instance, this story caused the entire front-page font, well everything below this story, to be whacked. I have fixed it now, sorry for the change in font halfway through the story.

Just something to be wary of in the future. I've crashed the front-page a few times myself this way. : )

Robert ..

..Sorry! I'll be more careful. The massive number of links and such and the lateness of the hour made cutting and pasting too tempting to resist. I'll watch it from now on! Thanks for fixing it.

I finally gave up on copying.

I either write it here and paste it into blogspot, or I write things in blogspot that are just for that blog and not here.

Some thoughts on writing

As some of you know, I write for a living . . . and in some ways, I live to write. In any case, I came across this fascinating article about writing for those of you interested in the craft.

At my company, we have a saying called, "You play like you practice," which accounts for my tedious emphasis on good grammar, proper punctuation, etc., etc., no matter what I'm writing (even here). In a world where most gramatical standards are slipping into oblivion, I sometimes feel like a fuddy duddy. But at least I'm a fuddy duddy with good grammar!

Thanks A, I know I could use some help

this is very thoughtful of you to share. Anytime you can edit me, please feel free to do so. Oh, btw, you are my favo-right-ist Fuddy Duddy! (Bad grammar meant in a good way!)

Hmmmmm

Anglico, should I take this as a hint? Did my piece need to be edited? If so, please elucidate. I will be the first to admit that in my passion for the subject, my grammar may suffer, and I might slip into a colloquialism or two. I've even been known to "cuss up a blue streak." Ah well. At least it's a bluestreak.

Not at all!

No hints intended whatsoever. Lord knows, I'm in no position to stow thrones when it comes to swearing and ranting and raving and worse. Plus I wouldn't even dream of wanting a world filled with Obsessive-Compulsive people like me. This was just something I ran across in doing some reading for my work work.

:)

PS I actually kept front-paging your piece ... and it kept sliding off whenever you made changes (I think). I thought it was most excellent.

Ah! Thanks!

I made changes to clean up the html that was causing problems, and fix a link that got broken in the process. Actually - to give credit where credit is due, my geek of a husband cleaned up the html. (He codes by hand in notepad for fun, the wierdo.) I now have a committment from him to clean all my stuff before it's posted so I don't cause problems.
