Words vs. actions

[cross-posted from BackwardNC]

The Jones Street House of Pain has declared war on lots of folks:

  • They have a War on Women
  • They actively pursue a War on Gays
  • They declared War on the Environment
  • They're Waging a War on the Poor
  • They are at War with Public Education

But the war they really don't want you to know about is the War on the Military.

Every politician claims that they support the military. Ask any of the right-wing extremist kooks in the legislature if they support our military and you'll surely get a hearty affirmation. But then we have to look at their actions:

We can see that their War on the Warriors overlaps with their War on the Poor and their War on the Environment and their War on Gays (and surely the War on Women and the War on Public Education hurts military families too -- after all, many military families include women and students).

And we can also see that

when they claim to support military personnel and military families, they're lying.

Good points!

Well played Posmo! I'll be spreading this one today.

Thanks!

Agreed, some good points

I just want to put this out there, and not taking away from the good points made in this cross-post, but as a member of the LGBT community (though I can't speak for everyone) I prefer gay or LGBT to homosexual which is a term conservatives have demonized so much. I personally cringe more when I hear it than hearing queer or faggot.

Thanks

Thanks, Jake. This is precisely why North Carolinians come to BlueNC -- it's the place to think. Thanks for sharing your thinking. I learned something and I edited my post and now I can help spread the word!

Cool deal

No matter what the word choice, it's usually pretty clear the intent of the person speaking, and that matters far more than the words chosen. And it was clear the intent here was in the right place. But I'm not one to pass up a learning/sharing moment when it comes across. =)

Right You Are

Now it's just a matter of describing "them others": for example, choosing between "right-wing extremist kooks" or "loony insane wing nuts". Either way, I expect my intent is clear and I will assert that both are accurate.

Thank heavens all of us stick together on the side that ultimately will prevail.
