Thank goodness

BlueNC is coming up on its seventh birthday, which in the blogosphere is like a jillion light years. It has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life, one for which I am truly grateful.

This morning, though, I am especially thankful for our long-standing policy of banning intolerably obnoxious users. Over the years, we've used that policy to block racists, abortion fetishists, and gun nuts, as well as occasional trolls who take pleasure in disrupting discussions without adding anything of value.

Many of us have succumbed to the temptation of getting into extended dialogue with trolls, but I can guarantee you ... it never ends well. Trolls are toxic to otherwise healthy online communities. For example, one of our former trolls relocated to Progressive Pulse last year, where he is slowly but surely driving disengagement. I give Rob and his team a lot of credit, though. They are gracious hosts, who put up with more bullshit than anyone should ever have to.

So in that spirit, I also give thanks for our friends at Progressive Pulse, who are doing the hard work year after year after year. Happy Thanksgiving guys.

: )

I'm reminded of that great country music line: "How can I miss you when you won't go away?"

Happy Thanksgiving, Frank.
